The Kinetics ... 1985-1991

The Kinetics were formed by Lee Heffron and Jim Lawrence in 1985. Jim had just left The Choice,
and met Lee through a mutual recording project. They both have played in local bands over the last 13 years,
and expessed an interest in playing songs in the modern alternative rock vein.
Initially, they could not find a drummer, and played as a 3-piece band (Bass, Guitar, Keys)
with Steve Edgar on guitar, and used a drum machine for live gigs.

This CD represents songs written by the group's two main songwriters, Lee and Jim. Jim does all the lead vocals, and plays bass guitar. Lee plays all keyboards and guitar parts, as well as the drum programming. This tape was recorded in 2 phases. Side "was" took place at Lee's house in Dryden, and consists of songs written back in 1985.  Side "is" was recorded at Electric Wilburland Studios right here in Ithaca by Will Russell, a long time friend of Jim's, and represents the most current songs written. The mix-down was all done at Electric Wilburland Studio.
